Allegiant Airlines needs to be shut down!!! This is the THIRD time the darn Pilot couldnโ€™t land in Sanford Airport due to FOG so they landed in Punta Gorda airport (3.5 hours south) without informing the passengers til landing. Oh... and the Punta Gorda AIRPORT was closed!!!

No Airport personnel ANYWHERE!!!

No bus came, no rent a cars available, no Uberโ€™s found to drive that far!!! Landed in a closed airport, 4 airplanes 1.5k people affected!!!

Never never never again!

Thank you Kathy for your help in getting Tina home!!! I love u sis!!!

obviously the airport wasnโ€™t closed if you landed there lol.No pilot can land in low fog.The FAA requires pilots have a visual on the runway if not they canโ€™t land. Sounds like they diverted to the nearest airport they fly into.By this time they might not have enough fuel to try to go to a larger airport where crews would be readily available. So it happens you divert and may have to wait for a bit for ground crew to be called in.They canโ€™t control the weather what exactly would you want them to do?Not follow faa guidelines and attempt to land even though they donโ€™t have clearance to land from air traffic control,so they land make the runway but collide with an aircraft that was stopped short because they could not see the plane because of the fog so now 400 people are dead because you want to get home.So no the pilot canโ€™t land in dense fog for good reason. And I bet your thinking well couldnโ€™t they go to a different airport with personnel available well yes and no.Airlines will only land at an airport that is not one they service if itโ€™s an emergency or low fuel. For one it will cost them thousands to land there then you have to hope there is ground crew that is familiar with that type of aircraft. Is there a gate that will work for the type of aircraft(.Not all jetbridges or ramps go up enough to fit all)Then you probably stay the night and they reschedule for the next day.Well now you go back to check in now what you canโ€™t get a boarding pass obviously because the airline doesnโ€™t fly there so no allegiant computer system to check you in.Also no maitence personnel to do the daily aircraft inspection. No ground crew to do the mandatory security/bomb search that is required by law everyday on every airplane. Also no allegiant personnel to service the plane, service the toilets ect no personnel to board you,no ground personnel to unload/ load your bags on the plane. No personnel to keep record of bags and weight and to make sure the bags are evenly distributed. No personnel to push back the plane they have to be certified on that type of aircraft. So with that being said what else could they have done

Lol.do you know what happened to the last plane and the pilot tried to land in dense fog and no visibility.the faa rule is down to 200 ft if no runway in sight they go around.depending on weather, air traffic control and amount of fuel left on board the pilot might try again to land but if not then the plane diverts to another airport. And its not usually the closest or most convienient airport.sometimes they will even have to fly the airplane back to where it departed from

The pilot couldnโ€™t land in the fog because faa rules prevent him from doing so.for good reason many aircraft accidents have been caused by low visibility fog.faa requires pilots to abort the landing by 200ft if there is no runway in sight.now would you really want the pilot to land if he canโ€™t see the runway? All airlines have basically the same rules.also air traffic control may order the pilot to abort the landing and divert to the alternate airport.and usually the alternate airport will not be the nearest airport.because an airline will divert to the nearest airport they fly to.because they have to have ground crew to help you off and back on and load unload bags because another airline employees are specific to the airline not the airport .so thatโ€™s why they wonโ€™t divert you to a closer airport.unfortunatly itโ€™s part of traveling by air.it sucks it happened 3 times.some airports get lower vis fog more often usually airport by water or mountains.also oct through December are usually the months the fog is worse.also weather changes fast, you can be at a half a miles visibility and 10 minutes later be under โ€œminimums.also the minimum visibity for take off and landing are different you need a quarter mile to takeoff.also it cost airlines $1000s to divert a flight and overnight it.trust me if they had a choice they would not choose to

How is the weather the airlines fault? No airline or pilot can land an airplane when the fog is so bad they can not see the runway.for good reason obviously.there have been a few aviation crashes because of fog and poor visibility. And every airline has the same faa rules they follow.they can descend down to 200ft at that time if the runway is not in sight they must abort the landing and go around.depending on fuel left onboard and how bad the weather is they may try to circle and try again but if the weather is below โ€œminimumsโ€ altitude in which they must either continue,if runway is in sight or abort, they will just be directed by air traffic control to divert to an alternate airport.it is part of airline travel.it sucks it happened 3 times but the airline did nothing wrong actually everything right.also some airports are more likely to get fog more often especially airports near water or mountains.also the visibility can change in minutes.so it could be a different plane just landed say 15 mins ago and now you canโ€™t land.its because the fog has gotten thicker and lower and the visibility has fallen below โ€œminimumsโ€
