Couldn't land due to fog

Allegiant flight from LA to Bellingham couldn't land in Bellingham due to fog. Alaska flights had no problem landing (one passenger said allegiant's planes are using old technology). We were rerouted to Pasco Washington (a 7 hour drive from Bellingham) and told Allegiant was not responsible for hotel costs because we were warned in the LA terminal (all we were told in the terminal was that there was a travel advisory--fog in Bellingham). Were we supposed to not fly at that point? Why wouldn't Allegiant have flown into Seattle? At least travellers could get ground transportation up to Bellingham. Upon arriving in Pasco, the car rental counters were all full with desperate people trying to rent cars. One agent told me Allegiant flights had been rerouted to Pasco all week because of fog in Bellingham and all of their rental cars were in Bellingham because of it.

Bad service/numerous delays

This airline may have cheap fares, but you pay for what you get. Keep in mind, if they have mechanical problems, more then likely there is not another flight or plane available. So your screwed. Do not book this airline unless you have plenty of time to potentially wait and sit in airport. And that could be all day into the next day. On 1/3 , flight from Lex to MCO we were at the gate waiting for the scheduled departure time. A lady who had just arrived at the gate for same flight asked us if we knew the flight had been delayed 4 hours. No one knew. She had been told at the check-in counter. No one from Allegiant came up to the gate area or even made an announceemnt that the flight was delayed. That alone is bad customer service. I believe that flight ended up leaving about 5 1/2 hours after scheduled departure time. I had to rebook, another airline to arrive in time to a meeting in Orlando. I went ahead and rebooked roundtrip. Allegiant has refused to refund the outbound or return flight that was never used. I was very courteous to the local employees. Even though I would love to had told them to go to gate and make an announcement. They are just undersstaffed. Ironically, in Orlando airport on 1/6, I overheard a couple of others being stranded with plane issues in Evansville , IN. with Allegiant. So apparently the issues are widespread. My wife made a trip on Allegiant a few months back. The scheduled departure was delayed 1 hour, then delayed 1 hour then delayed again and again. Finally the entire flight was canceled. We live locally so I came back to airport an picked her up, like 7 hours later. Non-locals I think were put up in a hotel. She was told to arrive next morning for a 6:20 departure. The flight finally left out at 9:35. She barely, made her meeting in time even though she scheduled to arrive the day prior. This is the last time I or my employees book with Allegiant. They just are not reliable. Say goodbye to 200 + flights a year Allegiant, you dont deserve them.

Horrible ground staff at check in counter harrassed me.

I understand that the ground staff at Oakland airport are independent contractors. I took a flight out of there with my parents on Jan 4th 2013. I had prepaid for one carry on bag and one check in bag. We had three personal items (1 each) in addition to the carry on...

No offense, but if your bag sizes, number of items, and/or weights were off, then you brought this on yourself. They give that info up front, so choosing to NOT follow it is foolish and discourteous to your fellow flyers.

It doesn't matter if you got away with it a dozen times before. It's your responsibility to make sure you are within the stated guidelines. From what you've indicated in your own words, your bags DID NOT match the requirements at boarding in number and weight (and perhaps even size).

What did you think would happen? If you can't follow simple rules, save your fellow flyers the irritation and drive a car.

Allegiant air

I booked a flight and had to change to do unforseen circumstances. They charged a $50 change fee which was not an issue. Attempted 3 times to change on line and each time their website kicked me off with an error message. Finally let me through but this time I forgot to change the destination. I realized my mistake and immediately tried to call customer service but their phones lines stated busy and would not accept my phone call. Eventually tried to cancell on line but system would not allow. Got through to customer service but they stated they would have to charge me another $50 to change again. New flight would cost me $54 but they want to charge me the orginal $112 plus my $100 in change fees. They are truely idiots.

Worse ever customer service EVER Allegiant Air

After six phone calls with no success we used the live chat option. I asked one question then they cut me off with a message telling me to call the airlines if we have any more questions. We proceeded to call again it took 5 phone calls before I was able to speak with a live person. I asked her for help we could not figure out how I messed up our reservation for 6. She said we only had four, I told her that can’t be correct we have the confirmation number for 6 and was billed for 6. She told me to go on line and book two more. I said that would be reservations for 8, all I heard was beeping she hung up on me as well. We will NOT recommend this airline Allegiant Air employees have awful customer service!!! They asked me to repeat both my cell and home number so I know they have our contact info and did not try to return my call.

Landed at wrong airport

My comments. As we approched what the passengers believed to be a landing at Mesa we were told that because of work being done on the runway, fog and refueling we would have to land at Sky Harbor airport. The passengers were not happy. Wondering about how they were going to meet up with people who were to meet them at the Mesa airport. There was talk that maybe the airline would buss us to Mesa and other ideas. Meanwhile The crew never told the passengers anything untill we landed at Sky Harbor. When we landed at Sky Harbor we were then told that we would have to take on fuel and we would then proceed on to Mesa. (what happened? did the runway in Mesa suddenly get repaired? did the fog lift? there was no fog in Sky Harbor, only light rain). The refueling took about an hour and we took back off to Mesa. Approaching Mesa I noticed that the skies were clear and there was no landing strip reairs that I could see. Being a retired Boeing engineer Got me wondering. I knew that the plane could not have been running low on fuel. The airlines take on more fuel than is needed to get to their destinations. This allows them to hold on their approach incase they either have to circle or land at another airport. I knew there was no work being done on the runway in Mesa as this would have been known before we took off. I knew there was no fog at Mesa airport and I knew that we were not out of fuel because we hand landed at Sky Harbor airport which is no further than Mesa airport. When we landed in Mesa I started asking some questions to find the real answer as to why we landed at Sky Harbor. What I found out, by an Alligent employee was that THE PILOT LANDED AT THE WRONG AIRPORT! We had to take on more fuel because the plane uses more fuel on take offs and because we had to make a takeoff that was not scheduled we were low on fuel. On my return flight on Christmas day I found that a number of passengers that had been on flight #109 on saturday still believed we had run out of fuel. My first flight with Alligent was disappointing. Alligent lied to it’s passengers as to the real reason why we landed at Sky Harbor. Another note. When my flight was booked I was charged a fee for a carry on. This was an error I tried to fix at the counter. I had NO carry on. I was told that they could not do anything at the counter and for me to call the airline back and ask for customer care. I had to go on line to find their number. Their on line site only gave an email address and unless you could check a particular box with a prewritten problem you could not email them. Their site gave no phone number to call. I could only find a number for Alligent by going to a airline complaint site. I found plenty of complaints against Alligent. One such ad, a person that had had the same problem as myself had finally found a number, 702-505-****. I called the above number and was told because there was a high number of calls my wait would be 15 min. I waited the 15 or so min. meanwhile their taped message kept saying that I should go on their web site and any problems could and would be corrected there and it would be faster. (I had already tried that).I finally spoke with a representative and after a lengthly conversation I was told, she could do nothing. That Alligent offered no refunds but the amount I was overcharged would be credited on my next flight. She could not or would not give me a number where I could follow up on this credit. When I went on line to check in for my return flight I noticed that the same error of charging me for one carry on bag was present on my checkin. Knowing from my last experience that if I checked in on line that I would be right back where I started I opted to check in at the counter and just have them check no carry on in their system. After all they could add a carry on in their system. You gessed it. They could do nothing. They handed me a slip of paper with a phone number of 1-86*-719-****. I called the number and it took me right back to my original Alligent call center. The prerecorded message kept saying that I should go on line where my problem would be handled and they gave a phone number of 702-505-****, Customer Care, where I could be helped. Now I’m right back where I started. At this point in time I do not know if I will ever get back the $56 credit owed me, or, if I do, how do I find this out? I can talk to no one that will give me this information. If I am given a credit I will have to use it within a year with Alligent, if I ever do use them again. Alligent, in my opinion, is under staffed and not very costomer friendly. I believe if you do a little research into what I have to say about Alligent that you will find are true. check into prior complaints. If you feel that your readers also need to know both the pros and cons of using Alligent. I wish I had known. That customer’s with overcharges never get refunded, Alligent is pocketing alot of money nation wide.

Being a former engineeer, you should know that you file for a route before leaving your departure city. Therefore, ATC controls all traffice, it's not a free highway in the skies.

So if you landed in Sky Harbor there was some apparent reason, agree or disagree that you couldn't go to Gateway. Think please think!

Most uncompassionate, inflexible airline around!

We have been long time Allegiant customers, enjoying every flight taken over the years and recommending the airline to quite a few of our friends. When my husband threw his back out during our vacation last year, the Allegiant crew was very kind to him, making sure that he made it through the airport with support. Because our experiences have been so positive, it makes our most recent one very h ard to fathom. When driving to the airport to make our flight yesterday, my son became very sick in the car, repeatedly vomiting. We had to pull over and get him air, wait for him to improve before we could continue our ride to the airport. We made it to the airport 30 minutes before our flight was to ***, however the representatives at the counter refused to take our baggage and let us on the plane. We had our boarding passes ready to go, but they were on our I-Pad, as we were unable to print them at our hotel. Despite the fact that the airline was paging us to report to the gate, the counter person would not get our baggage checked in and let us on the flight. She told us that we were supposed to arrive two hours before the flight. Yes, we were aware of that, but with our sick son, that was not a possibility. As a result, we were not able to get on that flight. Because we were desperate to get home with our four young children, we saw that there was a flight landing two hours away from our home leaving in 50 minutes. We were told that in order to get on that flight it would cost $200 per person, plus we would have to pay the costs to check our bags, which equated to $250 apiece!!!!! My husband just wanted to get us on the flight, so he ended up paying the fees to my dismay. We got on the flight and then had to pay for a rental car just to get to our vehicle parked at our home airport. We were on a very tight budget during our trip and paying these extra fees essentially wiped us clean. We did not anticipate that we would have this expense and could not believe the inflexibility of Allegiant. Perhaps if they had shown some compassion for our situation, it would have helped. But the coldness and rudeness of the associate in Orlando was highly disconcerting. When we called the 1-800 number, we were given the same treatment. Unfortunately, we will never fly Allegiant again. Our family is deeply disappointed with this experience and it left a bitter end to a wonderful family vacation.

Allegiant, fly cheap, fly angry, fly late, No More

My wife's flight from Bellingham to Maui began with the usual annoyances when traveling with Allegiant, Poor customer service and the extra charges added on to make it not such a good deal after all, which have already been identified in the other posts. After a great week in Maui She went to the airport only to find that the flight was delayed 8 1/2 hours. She was allotted the infamous $8.00 food voucher to wine and dine to her delight at the airport. When her plane did arrive she was surprised to see our neighbors get off the plane. James and his wife who just had a 40 hours delay coming over from Bellingham on the aircraft she was about to board. MMMMMM The flight was boarded and took off. All was well for about 1 1/2 hrs. into the flight when there was an announcement that they would be returning to Maui because of a malfunctioning fuel light. Twenty minutes later it was announced they were going to be diverted to Oahu where they were greeted on the taxi-way by the fire trucks and emergency vehicles. It was quite unnerving for the passengers as no mention was maid as to why they were there. The flight attendant, ready for anything though was quick to read from his card that he was happy to welcome everyone to Honolulu and "he hoped they enjoyed there stay". The passengers were given hotel vouchers after a 3 to 4 hour wait regardless if you had small children or not. They should have been taken care of first. There was no compensation for the next days expenses as the flight was rescheduled for 5:20PM the following day. Hey they actually did *** the next day. In conclusion I will not allow my wife or any family member to fly this airline due to my safety concerns and the fact that there is so many complaints about delays and cancelled flights due to mechanical issues. Other people I have spoken to after this happened share many of the same experiences when dealing with Allegiant. Once enough people become aware of the current operating conditions I don't think they will stay in business very long. Flying on a shoestring is not always the best way to go when it comes to your safety. You can look at safety statistics and it is clear that if you continue to have enough small problems that you are eventually going to have a big one and I don't want anyone I know to be there when it happens. Fly a reputable airline with a proven record of on time departures and arrivals as this proves, a professional and well maintained fleet with good management practices. Allegiant falls short on every aspect. Saving a few extra dollars is not worth it..........

Allegiant Air...King of Delays

In the middle of a terrible round trip from Oakland to Mesa/Phoenix (depart 11/21, return hopefully 11/25). On the way out, our flight was almost 2 hours delayed, but the consumers were not even informed of the delay (we just had to assume once the flight departure time passed). The flight was never marked as delayed on any websites (airports and airline included), and allegiant uses contracted workers in both airports who plead ignorance when asked anything about the delays. I am currently sitting in the airport, and arrived at the airport to discover an almost three hour delay for our return flight. The delay has grown to four and a half hours, and it is unclear if we will leave tonight. Airport staff has informed us that this delay occurs on a weekly basis, but the allegiant reps seem to know nothing about the nature of the delay and have lied about the departure time at least two times. The contracted workers refused to explain the airlines delay policy or to provide me with a written policy. The flight status on the airport website shows that it took off, and while allegiants website is finally updated to show a delay it still says that our flight should have taken off thirty minutes ago. The airlines website says that travelers will be informed within 30 minutes of an anticipated delay, but we have been anything but informed. Still unsure as to why we are delayed...and still waiting to go home.

My husband is waiting for his flight out of Palm Springs. Because they don't update their website I had to call.

When I told her that if they updated their website they wouldn't receive phone calls looking for updates...at that point she said to me that's okay because "we close at 11PM anyway". Nice customer service.

Poor Customer Service

Update by user Nov 25, 2012

Airport Check-In:

You must check in at the ticket counter or online at least 45 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time; if you do not, your reservation for that flight is subject to cancellation without refund.

*I checked in the night prior on both missed flights*

Boarding will be closed out 10 minutes prior to scheduled departure.

* I was not provided with this service, the plane left 30 minutes early*

Passengers are subject to being reassigned to another seat if necessary to provide seating accommodation to one or more passengers with disabilities as required by the Air Carrier Access Act and federal regulations, in which case, passenger seat selection fees will be reimbursed.

Original review posted by user Nov 24, 2012
I paid for my flight a month in advance. I checked in the night before and at that time paid fees for baggage and seat selection. The airport was extremely small with minutes to get through. I was not able to print my ticket out. I arrived late due to vehicle issues but not late enough to miss my flight. I did however arrive in time to catch the flight. There was no kiosk to print out my ticket and no one at the counter. Once I was able to reach someone the Allegiant rep stated that the plane left 30 minutes early and that the flight was full. First, I have never seen an airline that has left 30 minutes early and they sold my seats to someone else (so they were paid twice). I asked for a refund and was denied. I was even denied refund for the extra fees I paid for seat selection and baggage that I never was able to use. To continue on with this story, in order to catch the flight so I would not be late for my WEDDING. We purchased additional tickets and a rental car to drive 4 hours to the next flight to our destination. To continue on, I missed my flight back. I arrived 2 hours early in order to prevent the previous problem. I could not get through the check-in line so my husband and I removed ourselves from the line and stood in the priority boarding lane just so that we didn't miss our flight. We were denied our flight and they noted in my account that I arrived late. This flight also left with them selling my seats to someone else. I also forfeited my seat selection and baggage fees I paid the night before when I checked in.

Delayed/cancelled flight & stole other booked planes

I arrived on time for my flight and had to wait for 7 hours before the flight was ultimately re-scheduled 22 hours later due to the crew not being available. I feel they should be able to #1 not fly all their planes at once, thereby having a spare for breakdowns so someone else's plane is not stolen to accomodate the prior delayed flight. #2 do they not know how to read a computer screen to determine if a crew is beyond their flight time? #3 their is absolutely NO customer service...good luck finding anyone from allegiant airlines to talk to about anything!

Allegiant Airlines

Went to buy tickets at an Allegiant ticket center to avoid paying online cost of $10. They quoted a price of $83. They said that was their lowest price they had. Their web site said $68 with all fees and taxes. Checked when I got home and the price was still $68. The price should have been $58 at the airport. Without having my computer with me, I couldn't prove my price. Their practices and baggage charges should be looked at because they are outrageous. They have the smallest size carryons in the business you can bring onboard at a fee of $13. Thank You Doug G.

I have flown Allegiant air several times and every time I have booked my flights (for me and my 5 and 7 year old) I have been asked if I wanted to pick my seats. Yes, they charge you a minimum of 10 bucks to pick your seat but it is worth it if you want to sit next to your children.

It isn't their problem if you don't pay attention when booking online and fail to choose which seats you want.

Its a discount airline and they charge for everything. I don't agree with everything but you can't blame Allegiant for your mistake.
