Misleading online reservation process

I was in the process of booking a flight quoted at 67.99 for each segment from Rapid City to Mesa for July. I was very happy to get this fare and up front indicated I wanted flight only for two passengers. Before I could input my information and credit card, I was subjected to screen after screen trying to sell me hotels, cars. By the time I reached the screen to type in my credit card #- Poof! the fare was gone and was $40.00 more. Since I stated up front I wanted flight only, I should not have been subjected to all these unwanted promotions. Boo Allegiant. Streamline your process so customers can complete the transaction in a reasonable time and receive the quoted fare.

I will never fly Allegiant Air again

Never Again! What passes for customer service at Allegiant Air is shameful. Any money saved by flying this airline is so far offset by the shear frustration created through processes that are so clearly designed to discourage and hoodwink customers in order to garner additional revenues. A mistake was made on my original plane reservation where one seat of one leg of the trip was assigned for only one of the two of us flying, with no readily apparent way to correct this. The online Chat option was ‘down’ and after being on hold for nearly 30 minutes, the most impolite and uncooperative customer service rep told me that there was no way to correct this mistake. When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told that she would have someone call me within 48 hours. Of course, no one called me. Prior to calling, I had sent an email through their online customer service about this and received confirmation that someone would get back to me in 48 hours via email. Of course, no response was received. Eventually after logging complaints on-line, I received the ‘customer service’ response that nothing could be done. In the meantime, I figured out how to delete the seat selection online and instead of having my cost reduced by the amount of the charged seat, I received a credit voucher for future usage. Weeks later and within the 24 hour time prior to departure timeframe, I tried a change to my baggage selection, realizing that the carry-on baggage allowed by Allegiant is basically a purse, and tried to apply my credit voucher only to be ‘told’ that if you paid by debit card, you can’t apply a voucher. Only credit card users can have vouchers credited!!! So, another built in design to totally frustrate and add costs to the unsuspecting customer. The bonus you get by user your debit card, thus less expense to Allegiant, is now rendered futile because I had to pay the extra baggage fee on my credit card and am left with a credit voucher for future use!! Absolute absurdity. And on top of this, the online effort to make this credit card additional payment based on my baggage was totally futile. I tried 4 times to no avail. The Please Wait never went away and it would not process the transaction. So, what I am sure will come next is that I will be forced to pay a higher baggage fee at the terminal, because the online option was not conveniently not working!!!! I then went into my reservation via My Allegiant and wanted to change my baggage again and choose my seat assignment. This time I was asked to pay an additional $40 for the baggage change, instead of $14—the differential between my carry-on cost of $26 and the $40 checked. The system would not allow me to unselect the carry one bag option, therefore paying for both now!!!!! So after being told that the cue was 10 minutes and being on hold for 42 minutes to speak to an actual person, I am happy to say that the woman who finally answered handled the matter. However, since it took an hour and a half to handle this part of the mess, we are boarding in zone 6. Thank god for small favors. I work at a college of hospitality with over 3500 and I promise I will make sure that Allegiant Airs example of the poorest most aggravating ‘customer service’ I have ever experienced is taught to each and every student for years to come. Shame on you Allegiant Air. Shame on you!!!! You should all have to use your own booking and customer service processes as punishment. Life is too short. I will never fly this airline again. I could have driven from Orlando to Harrisburg Pa in the time it took to unsatisfactorily deal with this simple request to change a seat assignment and make a change to a baggage selection.

Could have driven from Orlando to Harrisburg in the time to read this quite humorous novel from an employee of this college! WOW!

Are you perhaps writing a Hospitality Journal? It's not that difficult to book on line if you people READ, Go Slow, THINK what you are attempting to book, where you are going...just prepare!

Read Terms and Conditions and check the FEES and Optional Fees before booking and save yourself frustration. You create your own distress, College Workers and all!

Accommodations cancelled/flight delayed hours!

After 4 weeks of being confirmed with accommodation, flight and car rental all made with Allegiant Air. A surprise trip for me made by my boyfriend turned south. 3 days before our departure date, my boyfriend receives a voicemail message on his phone from Allegiant, saying they don't have our accommodations for us that he confirmed a month earlier,no explanation and no offer of assistance.Gave us a choice of a partial refund for accommodation or cancel whole trip with refund.Told us no rooms left on the island.Come On!!!Flight delayed 6hours!!Arrived middle of the night. They bought us pizza. No compensation for anything else!! Customer service would not let us speak to a manager, waited for someone to get back to us...one call with little assistance. Pathetic. Never again.

Flight Attendant Looking for a Fight

During my flight 191 from Idaho Falls to Phoenix on May 16, 2013, I was reminded by the attendant named Yolanda to turn off my phone as I finished up an email. She hovered as I did so, and I finished up and switched to "flight mode." She told me that I had to power it completely down and I said that I didn't understand that to be the case. It does not explain this in the flight information at my seat. She reached down as if to take my phone so I handed it to my wife who powered it completely down. I asked her if she checks everyone's phone for completely powering off, and she responded that it is her prerogative and if she sees one on, as with mine, then she has a right to ask for it to power off. She then asked, "Is there going to be a problem on this flight with you?" It really offended me, because I had done as she had asked, and all those sitting around me, including my wife and business partner and his wife, listened in as she asked me. I shook my head "no" but she then said, "Sir, I need a verbal 'yes' from you so I will ask one more time, 'is there going to be a problem?" I then ignored her, and she stood firm, and I could tell she was looking for a fight with me or at least to make a fuss and I could only simply shake my head no. She then stood there as if to study me, then shook her head as if in disgust and said, "Don't make me regret this." She then stared at me as if I were to respond but I didn't know what else she wanted. By now I was furious but didn't do anything. Later I thought that I should have rung the attendant bell and asked a different attendant to manage the situation. Finally, she turned and walked to the back of the jet. It took me the entire flight to work through my angry emotions, the main one fueled by a complete lack of respect. I can tell you, with three other reasonable people (my wife, business partner, and his wife) as witnesses, that "Yolanda" was looking for a fight, a reason to somehow take me on, harass me, and impliedly threaten to have me removed from the plane, possibly arrested, all for not answering her like a school child would respond to a headmaster. I will study the regulations to determine if she has a right to harass me in the way that she did. I understand that she was doing her duty to ask me to power down, which I did. That should have been the end of it, but she didn't let it go. I had complied with her request and was not interfering with her duties. She was out of line. This needs to be dealt with, and I have requested a response, and acknowledgement and an apology. If it is not forthcoming, I will contact the FAA myself and lodge a complaint that I will pursue until it is resolved. There is no justification for this kind of harassment and abuse of authority by an employee.

Haha! If you would've just listened in the first place and not tried to look for a fight with a flight attendant, then the rest of the story would've never happened. Take responsibility for your own actions, ***.

#673500

You're an ***. Yep, everyone knows it's off...not airplane mode.

#653208

Sounds like your just mad because she made you turn your

phone off instead of leaving it in flight mode, everyone

knows you have to turn them off.

Airplanes are like jail, when your in their house, you play by their rules (whether you like them or not).

I cringe every time I have to deal with ALLEGIANT AIR because of their nickel & dime practices!

My wife’s family lives in the Midwest and ALLEGIANT AIR is the only direct flight from AZ to Sioux Falls, SD. They always advertise such Great Deals but by the time you get your butt in their narrow little seat they have managed to rape you for a small fortune. This morning my wife’s bag’s weight was 42 lbs. My initial thought was: Wow, Honey, you did a great job of traveling lightly. But Nooooo! ALLEGIANT AIR is the only airline with a 40 lbs. weight limit and they wanted to gig us for another $50.00 unless she took something out of it. REALLY!!! Come on Southwest Airlines. Start flying every route that ALLEGIANT AIR has and drive those *** out of business!!!!!!

42 lb bag is travelling lightly? LOL

I do agree it is messed up they use 40 instead of 50 lbs as the threshold for overweight, but still, 42 ain't light!

She must be pretty strong to be lugging that around!

Something to remember when you fly "cheap" airlines - They are also cheap when it comes to their maintaining their airplanes!! :eek

#760878

as someone who travels a lot, remember these dumb rules when it comes to baggage and the airlines --

1. your first bag is usually free, unless it exceeds the WT limit.

2. the second bag is $25 to check.

3. the third bag is $250 to check... WTF!? i still don't get it.

4. always pack an extra little bag inside your luggage.

5. you don't really need half of all that you are packing...

6. the airlines are broke and will do what it takes to make $$$.

if you ever get a chance to fly international airlines, you will never want to fly with any u.s. airlines again. :roll

Allegiant Air is a terrible airlines. They always have some shady new reason to charge an extra 10 or 30 dollars.

#744045

It is what it is. Their limit is 40 pounds.

You do NOT have a right to fly with 50 pounds. Try getting into an auto and driving if you don't feel like shelling out a measly $50 on baggage.

Allegiant Air ruined Easter!!!

We booked our trip with Allegiant Air through their website after paying the extra charges to sit next to our children and the other fees we arrived in Rockford, IL on time to experience an hour delay for our flight to Las Vegas. We finally got off and everything seemed fine. The trouble started on the return flight 9 days later. We arrived to the Las Vegas airport a little later than planned but got through TSA and the tram we had to take to get to the terminal and got to the gate 7 minutes before the flight was due to depart. I asked one of the ladies at the counter we were here to board the flight to Rockford and was told that the plane was already boarded. The jetway was still connected to the plane the door at the terminal leading to the plane was still open. We asked again is there any way we can get on the plane. One younger lady asked the older lady can we open up the door to the plane and let them on. The other lady responded “NOPE the final head count had already been taken” We still begged to get on the plane telling them all they had to do was open the door and all we had to do was sit down. At this point there was still 5 minutes before the flight was due to depart. After being told no repeatedly we asked when the next flight was and we were told that was the last flight for the day. Then we were told we would have to go downstairs and go to ticketing and speak to customer service and see what could be done. We went back with both my sons crying along with my wife asking how are we going to get home. I got to the ticket counter told the lady behind counter what happened she directed me to over another section of the counter where she handed me a phone that connected me to Allegiant customer service then this lady proceeded to rummage through the left over donuts and left me there to wait on hold. Once I got to talk to someone who ever he was and god only knows where he was told me that there was another flight going to Rockford the next morning but it was completely full and the next flight to Rockford was 3 days later. I asked about getting any of my money back and was told it was forfeiture because I had missed my flight. I explained that the plane was still at the terminal and I could still get on the plane only if the woman at the terminal actually had a heart and would open the door to let us on. The plane had not departed! The customer no service person again told me that there was nothing he could do to reimburse me any money for the flight. I then returned to my wife and kids who were still crying and told them that we had no choice but to look for another way home. So we were forced to spend another $1,600.00 to purchase one way tickets from Las Vegas to Milwaukee on another airline and then have my stepson and nephew drive to the Rockford airport to retrieve my van to have my Mother in law drive to Milwaukee to pick us up. We had to spend the next 16 hours stranded in the Las Vegas airport with my 8 and 5 year old sons spending Easter Sunday sleeping on a concrete carpeted floor. We approximately lost $1.200.00 on the Allegiant flight and spent another $1,600.00 for new tickets. We will NEVER EVER fly or recommend Allegiant Air. I will continue to go out of my way to let anyone know how horrible the airline is. If someone knows of anyway to somehow recoup any of my losses please let me know.

Getting stranded would have been a hassle especially with little kids and 2800 dollars is a lot money to blow but really dude is seven minutes the best you could do?

#689998

Next time get there on time. It states in your terms and conditions to be there 1 hour prior to your departure time and be checked in 2 hours prior.

It also states the doors close 10 minutes prior to departure for weight and balance, count. The terms and conditions state if you miss your flight or if you are a no show you have forfeit your funds. The departure time is the time it taxis out. It's not the airline's fault. Every airlines do it.

it is FAA policy that we shut the aircraft doors ten prior.

YOU were late and YOU missed your flight. READ THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS CAREFULLY next time.

#657127

At the 10 minute to departure point the take-off checklist has aprox 50 items or more to go. Several involve payload weight and balance.

Once the headcount is done, and the calculation begins, nobody gets on or off. Get there early, they and most airlines wont wait.

#656130

Allegiant is the most incompetant and inconsiderate airline in history. I don't understand how they are still in business.

Just look at their rating with the BBB. I am so sorry you had to go through that and I will help you spread the word because I have had similar experiences with them. As for the idiots who commented on this post that its your fault.

I just hope they fly allegiant. They deserve it.

#638672

I imagine the next time you will be on time. This is not the airline's fault in any way.

#635910

I understand where you are coming from. But the web site does say that they will close the gate 10 min before departing. Sorry

#633079

YOU always arrive at any airport at least 2 hours early

#632261

Allegiant Air NEVER goes out of their way for their customers. I understand your story.

Stranded on the Tarmac

On the tarmac for 4+ hours so far. Just now getting some complimentary water and snack! Will NEVER fly this airline again - not worth any kind of savings...Continued run around regarding the cause of the delay - first this, then that. Taxi to runway 3 separate times so far. Each time we return to the gate so they can get around the FAA 3 hour rule since the clock resets every time you return to the gate. In reading other reviews this is not unusual - the FAA should take a serious look at the operation of this airline.

Not considered "stranded." It DID return to the Gate. This 'complaint' would seem VALID if the author mentioned or explained the REASON for the return to Gate. We can only infer it was mechanical, which if that be the case, it is NOT STRANDED but delayed.

#677522

oops, sorry. the correct website is called redflagdeals. the more people that post there, the more others, especially Canadians get the message that this airline should be avoided at all cost

#677518

What people don't get is you're paying for a no frills cheapo airline. You save a little, you lose a lot. I agree, this FAA rule is really an attempt to camouflage the issue that they've looked at the problem of passengers being stranded when just like other bureaucratic agencies, they look out of the business or corporations' best interest.

If the FAA wanted to their 3 hour rule to have any teeth, they should've clearly mentioned that any time the passengers are on board the plane or runway for a TOTAL, not consecutive 3 hours or more then the fines will start. In 110F temps like the passengers from LV to Mesa endured for several hours without water or air conditioning, the FAA did nothing.

For Canadians, go to Redflags dot com and post your experience about Allegiant their. Just do a search for Allegiant.

#630915

Right as we were about to leave for the airport, Allegiant called to cancel our flight. Options were to reschedule to the following day or get a full refund.

There was no manager available to speak with and if we wanted to wait to make a decision we had to call back and wait on hold for at least 15 minutes. Incredible! There was not an option to put us on a different flight. Really there was no effort made to accommodate us at all.

Can't figure out why they did not call us the night before to cancel.

I even got an email the previous day to print my boarding passes. Really?

WORST EVER

I flew with allegiant, my review is below. Keep in mind that they flight which was directly across us experienced pretty much the same anguish then us the ONLY plus side for them was that they got to fly home and we had a cancelled flight :s Also i would never NEVER ever recomment Allegiant to anyone. I would rather pay the extra 100-250 more and fly with a better company. Allegiant watches their own back before the well being of their flyers. ARG Before leaving hotel checked online status of flight "On Time"... 3PMChecked in for flight (boarding pass indicates boarding at 440pm), checked in Bag, went through security and proceeded to Gate D3 in LAS, no mention of any delays at the gate Flight is scheduled to leave at 540pm. ONTIME. 5pm rolls around still No Allegiant Rep at the gate... whats scarier is there is No plane at our gate just our luggage sitting on the tarmac. 520 a rep finally shows up and says that the plane is delayed but will be here at 630. So we wait. 630 comes around and no plane or updates at 715 there is an announcement saying that the Plane we are supposed to be travelling on which is in Fresno hasnt even boarded yet and they are serving those passengers beverages while they are waiting & that they know nothing else. 745PM they start setting up a table with cups, ice, water and pop cans saying that management will be up in 10 min with answers and will be able to answer questions. 8PM they changed reps who told us there is a mechanical issue with the plane so they dont know when it will arrive, when asked by passengers why they dont have another plane to take us we get told that the crew that is in Fresno lives in Bellingham so its more "convienient" for them to be our crew so they can go home (which was pretty annoying to hear) at 9pm they distributed food vouchers ($8.00 meal per person, lets be honest you cant get much for 8 dollars at the airport terminal. Most fast food places were starting to close at 9) BTW no manager yet...a lady in a orange shirt kept coming to tell the reps something but kept leaving as soon as ppl started to approach her. She looked angry and cross. I dont think they realise that we would just like to hear the truth. not that they dont know anything when they actually do. Its frusterating. As well as when you ask a question and they ignore it or you all together, very poor customer service. 930PM the rep says they are doing an engine run( i dont know what that means...testing the engine?) then she says they have boarded the plane and *** and THAT WE WOULD BE GOING HOME WITHIN 1.5HRS. around 10pm the orange shirt lady came up and was asking the rep why she told us that and they rep said you told me the plane pushed so i relayed the message. 1030pm the Allegiant Air flight from Fresno lands at our gate and we get an announcement stating that our flight is cancelled due to the crew being in the air for the max amount of hours. and that our flight is rescheduled until the following day at NOON. Pretty frusterating. they had time to print up personalised hotel + food vouchers for 150 ppl, but didnt know that we would not be flyiing until the plane landed? I think that they have the poorest customer service I have ever experienced. In the mean time the only number that you can find online either doesnt work or tells you they are experiencing high volume calls 24 hours a day. They next day they acted like nothing happened. but did distribute $8.00 more dollars in food vouchers for breakfast and a letter for our employers. They didnt once apologise like normal ppl would, they had the worst attitude and were in turn being rude to us, which fuels the fire and gets ppl ANGRIER. REGARDLESS lesson learned i will pay the 200-300 difference and fly with a BETTER more professional Airline. I could go on for days about our experience. JUST WANT EVERYONE TO BE AWARE....DONT FLY ALLEGIANT.

Allegiant is liars

Me and a friend booked thru allegiant and the flight there was fine. In the way back we were told their was a delay due to mechanical issues, after the plane finally arrived we were told it may be cancelled due to weather. No other airlines had a problem. We were talking with the other passengers on out flight when several employees at the airport heard us and said "oh you must be flying allegiant" they say it happens all the time. Then they told us we may have to fly to another airport and they would not help us get to our destination from there and it's not their responsibility. Finally we took off and it was totally clear the whole way. Needless to say I will never fly with them again.

My wife and I were scheduled to fly to Punta Gorda from Peoria, IL Sunday 03-31-13 at 5 pm. We arrived at the airport to check in at 3:30 pm and were told the flight had been canceled.

They could not get a plane until the next day - three days to travel and two days of sun. What a great deal.

We will drive to Chicago next time.

#625531

So all of the other airlines were going to your destination too? Weather delays can happen enroute and at the final destination, not only at the airport you depart from.

#628082
@PissedConsumer625531

True however, this is happened to me as well. I was leaving Greensboro NC heading to Sanford/Orlando and they delayed our flight 6 hours and eventually cancelled it.

As we were being told it was weather related I was on the phone with my husband who was standing at a ticket counter of another airline at Sanford/Orlando. He was heading to Raleigh/Durham NC. The person at the ticket counter on his end said there were clear sky's and no delays. The NC airports are an hour apart.

We were told that the weather problem was in Florida.

This is unfortunately a normal lie for Allegiant Air. I also found out that all of their flights schedule that evening were cancelled.
