Beware Allegiant Air
My Fiancé and I have had a horrific experience with Allegiant nearly from the get-go, and sadly this was to be our first time using their airline. We purchased round-trip flights for both of us to visit family for the holidays since the price was appealing and they were non-stop flights.
A little over seven days prior to our first departure flight we received an unfortunate call that my Fiancé’s Grandfather had passed away suddenly – and this news came exactly one week since her Father had passed away as well. After receiving this call we immediately called Allegiant to ask them to change/cancel our flight since we needed to get back to her hometown quicker to assist family and attend the funeral. The agent we spoke with had absolutely no empathy, let alone sympathy, to our situation and spoke very coldly and impersonal with us. After speaking with a “lead” and explaining to us the “policies”, he informed us that they could let us change to a sooner outgoing flight or cancel, but would charge us a $150 fee plus we would owe any difference in the actual flight cost if changing.
We explained to him that all these costs and fees would end up totaling more than the initial flight in the first place - not to mention cost more than simply buying a new flight with them or a different company from scratch. He basically said take it or leave it in rebuttal and then proceeded to say, and I quote: “It’s just a Grandparent. It’s not like it’s the death of a parent or a child. We don’t have a bereavement policy anyway, so we are offering you a deal that we shouldn’t be offering.” This is where I asked to speak with a manager and was rudely and quickly counteracted with a “..we don’t offer that here, customers cannot speak to leads and even if they could they would say the same thing..” comment.
I eventually gave up after going back and forth with this agent since we didn’t have a lot of time and needed a new flight fast. After hanging up I ended up purchasing a new flight with a competitor for $49 each – well beating the so-called deal he had offered to change our flight. I must say I have flown for over twenty years with many airlines and have never had such a terrible customer service experience. I understand polices are in place for a reason, but I also understand that there used to be thing called good customer service that existed in the world where exceptions were made for certain extenuating situations and also to promote customer morale.
After a second call to a different agent a few days later, which was still prior to the initial flight, we still did not receive any leeway with this company other than a $128 credit towards a future flight. The only reason we even got this was because the agent cancelled out return flight. In the end our whole original cost was $542 for the two round trip tickets and we only got a measly $128 returned to us in the form of credit for another flight. So $414 was essentially stolen from us due to shady and bogus policies and horrific customer service.
The worst part is the second agent said we could have got more credit returned but management put notes in the system to retract the original offer that the first agent gave. This is quite sad that customers are treated like this with Allegiant and from the multitude of reviews I see that it appears to be the consensus. I recall years ago I had to cancel a whole flight and vacation package with Southwest airlines that was purchased as non-refundable since a family member got sick. After speaking with an agent and manager we ended up getting the whole package refunded in full, and this was the actually money not a credit.
This was a package that cost over $2000 at the time too. You would think a company like Allegiant would at the very least offer our full money back in credit form, especially considering how much notice we gave – but instead we were made to feel like an enemy, not a customer… It’s just SAD.

Our whole cheer team was set to fly out today to head to Florida for the 1st annual D2 Summit. Last cheer comp of the season when 30 mins ago I get a text for Alleigant Air saying "Flight Canceled"!!
What!!! No time to book a new flight at a decent price. I could understand if it was delayed or there is bad weather. But they just flat out cancelled it 10 hours before we were to fly out!
Never again will I use this airline, I don't care how much it saves someone. The team is going to be so disappointed when they realize they are going to miss their compition!
Don't Book a Package!Allegiant Figures out a way to make a buck on EVERYTHING!

Not to be redundant, but this is my worst flight experience ever! Our original flight was scheduled to leave yesterday (3/20) at 7:17pm.
After an initial hour delay, being held on the plane for two hours and in the terminal for more than six hours, we were informed that our flight was cancelled. We received notification that the replacement flight would be 3:22 pm that day (3/21). We are at the airport now and are on a one hour delay (so far). This is our 3rd experience with Allegiant that has resulted in a cancelled flight due to mechanical issues.
Call me a slow learner, but I am done with Allegiant. I seriously question the safety of their fleet.
- Major delays
- Poor service
- Lack of information

Their cancellation policy is a rip-off
We booked a flight to Florida on October 18, 2015 for January 17, 2016. My husband was diagnosed with a collapsed lung with a mass on January 6 or 7.
The specialist advised that we could not travel with a collapsed lung and 47% usage of the other. Our cancellation fees were more than the cost of the flight. Other family members have experienced the same issue. Our flight and car rental charges were $1003.00.
Allegiant gave us a VOUCHER for $635.00 which must be used within a year. They charged for baggage carry-on ($60.00) which obviously we didn't use as the date for travel has not arrived, and they refunded a big fat ZERO.
Other charges, which we did not use, were not credited. Hidden charges, it appears the laws do not apply to them.
- Shoddy customer service

This has been my worst experience with an airline. For starters, the AC wasn't working on my flight from TPA to RDU.
But that was just the beginning. My return flight from RDU to TPA was first delayed two hours (not too far out of the ordinary..I could deal with this). I got to the airport two hours before my flight as I normally do, waited patiently, only to be told 10 minutes before boarding time that the flight was now CANCELLED due to crew hours......... Is this not something that can be determined in advance...I don't know, maybe when the flight was originally delayed two hours.
I am livid. Not to mention that I will be losing money tomorrow when I SHOULD be at work. I can understand mechanical issues and weather concerns but, really.... Somewhere down the line, someone dropped the ball.
Big time. I will not be flying allegiant again.
Ever.

I recommend buying a "Refundable ticket" or a "Flexible ticket" next time. It costs more but it will cover you.
Also, some travel insurance companies will also pay you the full amount back in cases like these, so also look into getting travel insurance next time.
Live so that you never fear the truth like this company does. You get what you pay for which is not very much with this Southwest wannabe.
What is really sad is that you enter into a contract and agree to certain terms, then don't have the integrity to accept that is what you agreed to. Instead you bad mouth Allegiant for simply following the contract.
So what you really want is to get the benefit and low price of a non-refundable ticket, but then because you are so so so special you want the benefits of a refundable ticket if something goes wrong.
We know you can't be so *** that you don't see that this involves acceptance of risks. You can place all the risks of intervening events on the airlines by buying a REFUNDABLE TICKET. Or you can take the risk (and substantially lower price) by buying a NON-REFUNDABLE TICKET and gamble you can make the trip and that nothing will intervene.
Be a man.
Face up to the fact that you chose the cheap ticket and lost. Don't be a cry baby, show some integrity.
