My brother drove me to the airport for a departure from Branson Missouri to Phoenix/ Mesa. It was a three hour drive in thunderstorms.

We left with plenty of time to make it but arrived at the airport thirty minutes instead of sixty minutes before departure time. I went to the check in desk, no one was ahead of me, Kevin told me I was late that I needed to check in an hour before departure. I said the weather and the fact that our GPS took us to the old airport several miles away caused the delay. He didn't care.

I asked if the plane was still at the gate. He said ,"yes, but you won't be on it." Branson is a small airport. There was no one in line at security and the plane was at the first gate past security. He said it would be inconsiderate to the other passengers to wait for me to board.

I think the more likely scenario is that they gave my seat to a standby passenger. They were then getting double fare for the seat. I could have been on the plane in less than five minutes, but was denied boarding. Allegiant Air only flies in and out of Branson twice a week.

I was faced with making a more than six hour round trip and a three day wait to fly the next Allegiant Air flight to Phoenix. Also, I would have to buy another ticket. The one I bought would not be refunded. I opted to stay at the airport and pay Delta the more expensive one way fare than what it would have cost to buy another Allegiant Air ticket.

Southwest was very helpful, as was Delta, but the Delta flight fit my schedule better.

There is a difference between an inexpensive airline and a cheap airline. Allegiant fits in the latter category.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Location: Mesa, Arizona

Allegiant has never flown out of Branson. They fly out of Springfield-Branson Regional airport in Springfield, MO.

There is a small "Downtown" airport that is used by private aircraft.

Allegiant is NOT like most of the "legacy" carriers, but a LCC (low cost carrier). They have very specific conditions and most of the complaints I see here are from people who did NOT read those conditions, violated them, then complain. You have to arrive and check in within a certain time period prior to the flight departure. It is NOT the fault of the airline if you ran into bad weather nor is it the fault of the airlines that you did not check on the correct address for the RIGHT airport and put it into your GPS.

You have weight and size restrictions on your checked and carryon luggage (a bit different than legacy carriers).

You have to pay for seat assignments, checked and carryon luggage, name or date changes to your ticket after booking, credit card use fee, fee to call the airlines, fee to book on their website, fee to for them to print your boarding pass.

ALL of this is outlined in the policies published on their website. If you can not read and follow those policies, please do not complain.

I've had people who work for me deal with the same thing. They are indeed reselling the ticket.

The regular airlines do the same weight and balance calcs. They do not turn passengers away inside an hour. FAA requires the doors to be closed 10 minutes prior to take off. That's the only requirement.

The 1 hour window is just a way to make up for low prices.

It's also listed as a recommendation. Not a requirement in their TOS

I think the more likely scenario is that you arrived late and were required to follow the individual airline's rules. But sure, poor you.

As the other poster said, pilots are required to do weight and balance calculations prior to ***. If they add a passenger and luggage, then they have to do all the calculations over.

This could take 15 minutes or more to do all the extra paperwork.

You bought a one way ticket on Delta to Phoenix. How are you getting home?

With most airlines, when you miss the outbound flight [which you did], under the contract you knew about and agreed to, the return flight is cancelled also. Did you check about that with Allegiant?

So you knew the check in requirements and knew they only flew twice a week.knowing ahead of time but you still arrived late?also some airlines use the same employees to check in and board the plane.so at the required cut off time for check in the computer at check in closes and transfers to the one at the gate.so at that time they could no longer print you a boarding pass even if they had wanted to.plus they have to do weight and balance and more behind the scenes things that they cant do until all passengers and bags are loaded.so all airlines have to have a cutoff time or planes would never leave on time.take some responsiblity.
